Chancery Cistern
An original commission by Brian Turner.
This cisterrn was inspired by the 1724 piece which stands outside the Public Records Office at Kew.
The 1724 piece was moved from the office's original location in Chancery Lane when it relocated. Prior to the time of the office's existence, the piece is thought to have stood at that same site, outside the house of a wealthy merchant.
The surface of this piece is a testament to the original plumbers art - as at that time is was common for leadwork to feature a collage of motifs of this kind. These images were often associated with particular craftsmen.
Size of original piece: height 91.5cms x length 178cms x depth 73.6cms
